WEST BRADFORD PRESERVES AND OPEN SPACE
Within West Bradford are several Preserves and Open Space areas. Natural Preserve Areas are properties that are protected and maintained so that our residents can enjoy their beauty and use them for passive recreation. Their use is subject to all West Bradford Township park rules, including the prohibiting of unauthorized vehicles and dumping.
Dedicated open space areas are located in many developments within the Township and are maintained by the various homeowners associations. These areas are also for the residents to enjoy and use for passive recreation.
Brandywine Meadows Preserve (48 acres)
Located on Route 322 across from the Brandywine Ridge development. Over 19 acres of this preserve were approved to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture - Natural Resource Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) "Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program" (CREP). The CREP program is a federal and state partnership that enrolls highly erodible cropland and pasture in conservation plantings to improve water quality and improve wildlife and fisheries habitat. The north end of the East Branch Brandywine Trail (of which a 1.6 mile portion of the multi-use trail is now open) begins in this preserve, with the entrance and parking area across from Bradford Avenue. From there the trail proceeds south along the west side of the East Branch Brandywine Creek for approximately one mile. It then crosses a new pedestrian bridge into East Bradford's Harmony Hill Nature Area. From that location, the trail follows the abandoned West Chester Street Railway Trolley bed south along the east side of the Creek to Harmony Hill Road. The paved trail is approximately 10 feet wide and designed to accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and similar passive recreation uses. The Preserve has been improved to provide parking, benches, and trash receptacles. Future plans include a canoe launch and kiosk. At the southern trail head, East Bradford Township will be expanding and improving the Harmony Hill Road parking area and providing additional trash receptacles and signage. Broad Run Preserve (17.1 acres)
Located at the NW corner of the intersection of Broad Run and Shadyside Roads, across from the Estates at Broad Run. Since the Broad Run Creek has been designated as one of the highest quality streams in the State, the property will be managed for floodplain protection, habitat preservation, and limited passive recreation. A conservation easement will be offered to the Brandywine Conservancy to ensure that the property is protected in perpetuity. A Master Plan is being developed for the preserve. When that is completed the property will be open to the public. Future plans call for a walking tail within the preserve.
Broadview Preserve (2.5 acres)
Located off the north end of the Broadview West cul-de-sac. There are currently no access routes for entrance into the preserve.
Price Preserve (8.2 acres)
Located east of the intersection of Ridgeview Circle and Price Lane. There are currently no access routes for entrance into the preserve.
Telegraph Preserve (177 acres)
Located along both sides of Telegraph Road near the intersection of Ground Hog College Road. The preserve is used for passive recreation and has no active recreation facilities. There are currently no access routes for entrance into this preserve.
Walnut Ridge Preserve (1.4 acres)
Located northwest of the intersection of Walnut Ridge Drive and Valley Wood Drive. There are currently no access routes for entrance into the preserve.
Westminster Preserve (3.7 acres)
Located along the northeast side of Marshallton-Thorndale Road, southeast of the Westminster Drive cul-de-sac. A walking trail bordered by a post & rail fence leads into the preserve.
